Drink your water!!!

Dehydration

We all know the body is made up of mostly water. In fact, up to 75% of a person’s body weight is water. Water is found mostly in the cells, but is also located in blood vessels and the spaces in between cells. Dehydration happens when the amount of water taken in does not compensate for the amount of water leaving the body.

We lose water in several ways including sweating, breathing, and urination and bowel movements. It is important to drink ample amounts of water every day to replenish these losses. If we do not supply an appropriate amount of water, the body will automatically move water from the cells to the blood vessels but only in the short term. As the level of dehydration increases, symptoms like dry mouth, dry eyes, muscle cramps, nausea and vomiting and/or lightheadedness may occur. As the body tries to keep up with the amount of blood it needs to pump into the body, the heart rate increases causing blood vessels to constrict to in order to maintain blood pressure. However, this cannot go on for too long before the organs begin to receive less blood. Weakness and confusion then occur. If dehydration goes untreated, the body will go into complete organ failure.

To assess whether a person is dehydrated, it is important to note their mental state. Is he/she awake and alert? Also, if possible check for an increased pulse rate and decreased blood pressure. Check for fever and the presence of sweat on the body. Do the eyes appear dry? It is important to understand that hydration can be a serious medical situation. Left untreated it can lead to coma, shock, and kidney failure. While dehydration can be treated at home, it is important to seek medical attention if symptoms persist.

The treatment for dehydration is as simple as two words. Fluid replacement. If possible fluids should be replaced by mouth, with small amounts of clear liquid such as water, broth or an electrolyte replacement drink like Electro Mix by Alacer. If dehydration is present due to vomiting and/or diarrhea and it is not possible to keep these clear liquids in, then intravenous fluids may be required.

I tell you all that to tell you this…

If you are visiting I-supplements.com then there is a good chance you are doing so to research weight loss products or bodybuilding supplements. If you are in a dehydrated state, your body is going to hold onto fat. Fat burners work by causing your body to release fat cells in order for you to flush them away. Guess what happens when you don’t get enough water…. Bingo, no flush. So the fat you just released simply gets reabsorbed. So beside the fact that completely dehydrating could kill you, it also won’t make you skinny. So drink some water already!
