Larry Scott – The Legend

Also known as "The Legend," Larry Scott was born on October 12 of 1938 and is from Blackfoot, Idaho. Larry is known for being an American professional bodybuilder as part of the International Federation for Bodybuilders. He has won numerous awards throughout his bodybuilding career including Mr. Olympia in both 1956 and 1966. These were the first two years that the competition ran, and the only two years that he competed. Before he claimed these titles, however, he competed in numerous other competitions and took home several prizes. During his career he weighed 205 lbs and stood at 5 feet and 7 inches.

Larry Scott professional wins were numerous in his 28 years as a body builder. His first win was in 1959 where he took first place and became Mr. Idaho. In 1960 Larry claimed 4 AAU titles (Armature Athletic Union) including winner of Mr. California, Mr. California Most Muscular 1st place, Mr. Los Angeles 3rd as well as 3rd place Most Muscular Mr. Los Angele s. 1961 held two more AAU wins for Larry; Mr. Pacific Coast Winner and Mr. Pacific Coast Most Muscular 1st place. In 1962 he took his first Mr. America, Medium, 2nd title. His wins only got better, in 1963 and 1964 Larry became the Mr. Universe 1st place winner. 1965 was great year for Larry; he became the first man to win Mr. Olympia competition and remained undefeated till his retirement from competition in 1966.

In addition to his titles, there are a number of distinctions that make Larry Scott unique. He was the first bodybuilder ever to win the Mr. Olympia contest, and to date he is the only bodybuilder that was undefeated during his Mr. Olympia career. Additionally, he was one of the first bodybuilders ever to have 20 inch upper arms. He was referred to as having the greatest arms in all of bodybuilding. Before he achieved this, he was told that he would be unsuccessful as a bodybuilder because his shoulders were too narrow. This condition, at that point, was perceived to be insurmountable.

He turned things around when he packed on additional delt muscle, enabling him to overcome his narrow shoulders and create some truly impressive shots. Larry Scott persevered despite being told that he would not be capable of succeeding, and his hard work and dedication paid off as he continued to succeed in his career before retiring from competition in 1966 to focus on his family.
