Ronnie Coleman is one of the most successful bodybuilders in modern history. He has won Mr. Olympia eight times, beating Arnold Schwarzenegger’s record of seven. For the IFBB, he has had 26 wins during their exclusive competitions. He continues to astound the bodybuilding world despite being 46 years old. So, what is his secret? According to him, the only thing that sets him apart from a beginning bodybuilder is the way he trains. In fact, if beginners were to incorporate some of his daily routine into theirs, they could get success in no time.

Consider the bench press, a popular routine that is often performed incorrectly by beginning bodybuilders. According to Ronnie Coleman himself, to properly conduct this exercise it is important to use your mind. As the weights are being pulled to your chest, you must put a hold on your pectoral muscles. After this brief hold, you then contract them. This strengthens your chest muscles quicker than the traditional bench press, where the weights are moved around the rib cage.

Ronnie Coleman also swears by the preacher curl. This is done on a device that is designed to put you in a proper weight-lifting position. You sit down on the chair, and lay your arms on the rest. Extend them to where the weight is. Now lift the weight until it is at the same position as the arm rest. Repeat this motion, making sure your arms do not go too low. Over time, this workout will “easily” build your biceps. This is especially the case if you start out with heavier weights.

These two exercises will get you started. As you get stronger, you can add other exercises, such as leg squats, barbell rows and military presses. These are all the exercises Ronnie Coleman does to stay in shape. But there is something else to remember, as you are trying to attain his type of physique. You must think of yourself as a “Mr. Olympia.” During every exercise routine, you must work your muscles to exhaustion. This is how your body is forced to build more muscle. Of course, make sure you still stay within the realm of safety. While it is normal to feel some discomfort in the bodybuilding process, if you are going through excruciating pain, you may have strained a muscle. This is not what Coleman advocates. What he supports is pushing yourself to the limit while still being responsible with your body. By doing this, you will attain success without having to go to the Emergency Room.
